| Liposuction Versus Gastric Bypass Surgery
If there was one thing liposuction and gastric bypass surgery had in common, it were that they both have one purpose: to help an overweight or obese individual lose weight, but that's all there is to their similarities. These two procedures have a world of differences and are meant for two very different types of candidates.
Let's take a look at gastric bypass surgery. This type of surgery involves direct manipulation of the stomach and the small intestines, so it is strictly limited to people who are a hundred pounds overweight, and are medically obese. The stomach is tied or in some cases cut to make its pouch smaller so that the individual feels fuller with lesser food.
To reiterate, gastric bypass surgery is a weight control option for morbidly obese individuals who have medical problems causing the obesity, or aggravating it. When the gastric bypass surgery is performed, a person needs to make permanent life changes in terms of diet, nutrition, rest, exercise and lifestyle. Post-surgery, a special bariatric diet is prescribed for the individual to prevent bypass complications. He or she will need to adhere to this for the rest of his or her life. After the surgery, there would be a large piece of skin hanging loose from where fat used to be, so a tummy tuck may need to be performed.
A liposuction, on the other hand, has no specific weight requirement for it to be performed. It can be performed on any part of the body and is not limited to abdominal fat. One can undergo liposuction to get rid of fats on the buttocks, arms, thighs, or even fat on the jaw or chin. The procedure is done with the use of a vacuum-like instrument that sucks the fats out. Weight gain is unlikely, since the fat cells which have been removed are gone too. However, without regular exericse and a healthy diet, fats can deposit themselves on other body parts.
Both procedures are meant for individuals who have tried other options but failed, but gastric bypass surgery is for folks who have a medical problem other than just stubborn love handles.
