| Your Sex Life After Bariatric Surgery: Will It Improve?
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism has revealed that new studies have shown that morbidly overweight or obese males can have dramatically improved sex lives after a successful gastric bypass surgery, as opposed to male counterparts who do not go for this intervention.
Erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems are common in severely overweight men. Physiological concerns such as shortness of breath and low levels of testosterone are also major problems that affect an obese man’s performance in the bedroom. It’s not just a physical problem – obese men may have problems initiating sexual relationships because of their lowered self-esteem.
Bariatric surgery significantly allows weight loss to help restore good levels of testosterone, the male hormone necessary for a man’s sexual libido and fertility.
The study was conducted by measuring the sex hormone levels of the subject males during the start and end of the experiment. In addition to this, the males were also asked to fill out info sheets about their sex lives before and after the procedure.
Men who have undergone the surgery showed significant weight loss and a decline in basal metabolic rate. They also showed an increase in testosterone levels and a decrease in the female hormone estradiol. Over all, they reported a great increase in their sex lives. In fact, people who have undergone the surgery look back at their once-sex-devoid lives and wonder how they ever lived like that. In closing, bariatric surgery is a gateway to providing a person much needed improvements – physically, psychologically, and emotionally.
